Digital Transformation through the use of Balanced Scorecard
In my search for tools to aid in digital transformation, I researched the Balanced Scorecard and found a proposal that senior management could utilize for digital transformation, incorporating an agile approach from a strategic organizational perspective. Below, I will briefly describe each component before presenting the proposal.
Agile Approach. Organizational agility plays a fundamental role in digital transformation by enabling companies to quickly adapt to technological, economic, and social changes.
This involves: Swift response to change, Continuous experimentation and learning, Customer-centric focus, Collaboration and empowerment, Change and uncertainty management.
Balanced Scorecard. Developed by Robert Kaplan and David Norton in the early 1990s, it is a strategic management framework used to measure and manage organizational performance. It serves as a tool to translate an organization's vision and strategy into measurable objectives and concrete actions communicated throughout the organization. It goes beyond financial indicators, considering four perspectives: 1. financial, 2. customer, 3. internal processes, and 4. learning and growth. One of its benefits is assisting organizations in identifying performance gaps and taking corrective measures.
The proposal by Robert Fabac in the 2022 study, "Digital Balanced Scorecard System as a Supporting Strategy for Digital Transformation" provides a strategic framework to support digital transformation. Embracing an agile mindset is crucial for effective support. The proposal demonstrates how various aspects of the strategy can be addressed with agility.
